EST, EDT, CST and schedule limits
New York follows Eastern Time: EST in winter and EDT in summer. Select New York for date-aware conversions. Search “EST” or “EDT” to choose an explicitly fixed offset instead. “CST” is ambiguous: choose Chicago for US Central Time or Shanghai for China Standard Time.
The table uses regional Forex hours, not a stock-exchange calendar or a live trading-status feed. London–New York overlap is the intersection of these session windows; it does not measure liquidity or predict returns. Broker holidays, maintenance and exact trading minutes can differ.
Time-zone calculations use IANA release 2026e, shared by the page and the converter. Dates from 2020 to 2035 are supported; future rules may change.

London session time in India
In this session model, London runs from 08:00 to 17:00 in London. In IST, that is 12:30–21:30 during British Summer Time and 13:30–22:30 during Greenwich Mean Time. Use the date selector above to see which applies.
New York session time in India
New York runs from 08:00 to 17:00 Eastern Time in this model. In IST, that is 17:30–02:30 the next day during EDT or 18:30–03:30 the next day during EST. A Friday New York session therefore ends early on Saturday in India.
DST and weekends
When both cities use summer time, the modelled overlap is 17:30–21:30 IST. When both use standard time, it is 18:30–22:30 IST. During the weeks when the UK and US change clocks on different dates, it can be 17:30–22:30 IST. The dated schedule calculates the intersection of both sessions.
How these hours are calculated
India uses Asia/Kolkata (IST, UTC+05:30). The timetable uses the same dated time-zone rules and weekly model as our global Forex Market Hours tool — choose another time zone: Sydney 08:00–17:00, Tokyo 09:00–18:00, London 08:00–17:00 and New York 08:00–17:00, each in its own local time.
Session windows are limited to a Forex week from Sunday 17:00 to Friday 17:00 New York time. This is a global Forex session timetable expressed in IST, rather than an Indian exchange trading calendar. Public holidays, individual broker schedules and maintenance are not included. This timetable does not show NSE or BSE currency-derivatives trading hours or determine which transactions a resident of India may undertake. See the RBI guidance and the relevant exchange’s contract schedule, including NSE market timings.
Frequently asked questions
What time does the Forex market open and close in India?
The weekly reference used here opens Monday at 02:30 IST during New York daylight time or 03:30 IST during New York standard time, and closes at the same respective time on Saturday. The live status above shows the next opening or closing date in IST.
Does India change clocks for daylight saving?
Asia/Kolkata stays at UTC+05:30 throughout the supported date range. Session times in India still change when London, New York or Sydney changes its own clocks.
Why does the New York session close on the next day?
India is ahead of New York. The session closes at 17:00 in New York, which is 02:30 or 03:30 on the following IST calendar day. The table marks this with +1 day.
Is EST the same as New York time all year?
No. Fixed EST is UTC−05:00. America/New_York switches between EST and EDT according to the selected date. Use the New York city option when you want the local session time with daylight saving applied.
Why can a Saturday show hours from the previous day?
A Friday New York session continues into early Saturday in IST. The schedule shows those remaining hours separately and does not label them as a new Saturday opening. Sunday has no session windows in this weekly model.
