Darwinex is an international broker and investment platform operating through regulated companies in the UK, the EU, and the Seychelles. The available trading platforms include MetaTrader 4/5, TradingView and DXtrade, as well as API solutions for algorithmic traders.

At the same time, Darwinex is geared more toward experienced and algorithmic traders, so its investment model and tools may seem complex to beginners.

Darwinex was founded in March 2012. The brand belongs to the Tradeslide group of companies and was originally created as a technology and brokerage platform for traders. Darwinex's headquarters are in London, while product development is handled by a team in Spain.

The core business of Darwinex is the provision of brokerage and investment technology services. The company gives traders access to financial markets, helps them build a verified trading track record, and allows them to turn trading strategies into DARWIN investment products that other investors can invest in. Thus, Darwinex combines the functions of a broker, an investment platform, and a fintech provider focused primarily on professional and systematic traders.

Darwinex Review Summary

The assessment of Darwinex is based on a comprehensive analysis of the broker according to key criteria: reliability and regulation, trading conditions, commissions, available markets, platforms, analytics, education, and support quality. More information about the scoring principles and broker evaluation criteria is available in our rating methodology.

Next, we examine every aspect of Darwinex in detail to identify its strengths and weaknesses and determine which traders this broker is best suited to.

Reliability and Regulation

Rating:5/5

Reliability and regulation of Darwinex
Legal EntityRegulator

Darwinex has a strong regulatory framework and operates through three legal entities. The level of protection depends on the company where the account is opened. Client funds are held separately from the broker's own funds; for the UK division, their accounting is also monitored in accordance with FCA CASS. Clients of Darwinex UK may be eligible for FSCS compensation of up to £85 000, while eligible clients of the European division may receive FOGAIN protection of up to €100 000. Retail clients of the UK and EU entities also receive negative balance protection. However, Darwinex Global, which is regulated by FSA Seychelles, has no compensation scheme or negative balance protection, so the level of safeguards is significantly lower.

Account Opening

Rating:4/5

Opening an account with Darwinex is entirely online, but the process is somewhat more involved than at many CFD brokers. In addition to standard registration and identity verification, clients complete questionnaires about their financial situation and trading experience. Once verification is complete, they can open live trading and investment accounts. The availability of individual services depends on the country of residence and the regulated division of Darwinex.

Registration

To begin, you need to create an account with Darwinex and choose a public username, which cannot be changed later.

Registration on Darwinex
Registration on Darwinex

The client then proceeds to the live account application and provides personal details and information about their financial situation, sources of funds, knowledge, and experience with financial instruments. The account's base currency is also selected at this stage.

Darwinex allows clients to open individual, joint, and corporate accounts. After verification, the account holder cannot be changed, and an individual account cannot be converted into a joint or corporate account.

Verification

For an individual account, Darwinex requires a valid passport, ID card, or driver's license, as well as proof of residential address, such as a bank statement or utility bill issued within the past six months. For a joint account, documents must be provided for each account holder. Corporate clients must additionally provide an LEI, incorporation documents, details of directors and beneficial owners, and proof of the company's registered and physical addresses.

After the questionnaires are completed and the documents uploaded, Darwinex usually provides a decision on the application within one business day. Additional documents may be requested for certain countries in accordance with local legal requirements.

Account base currency

Darwinex supports three base currencies:

  • EUR — euro;
  • USD — US dollar;
  • GBP — British pound.

The currency selected during registration becomes the base currency for Darwinex Wallet and any trading and investment accounts opened later. It cannot be changed after verification, so the currency should be selected based on the currency in which the client plans to fund the account and make transactions.

Minimum deposit

The minimum initial deposit for an individual or joint account with Darwinex is 500 EUR, USD or GBP depending on the selected base currency. For a corporate account, the initial deposit is significantly higher — 10 000 EUR, USD or GBP.

Subsequent deposits start at 100 EUR/USD/GBP, although the minimum amount for a bank transfer remains 500 EUR/USD/GBP. Funds are first credited to Darwinex Wallet, after which clients independently allocate them among their trading or investment accounts.

Account Types

Rating:4.5/5

The account system at Darwinex differs from that of most Forex and CFD brokers. In addition to regular trading accounts, clients can open an account through Interactive Brokers, invest in other traders' strategies, or turn their own trading strategy into a DARWIN investment product. All main accounts are linked to a single Darwinex profile and the selected base currency.

Trading accounts

CFD accounts

For self-directed CFD trading, Darwinex offers live accounts on MT4, MT5 and DXtrade. Clients can open several trading accounts and allocate funds among them through Darwinex Wallet.

Through MT4 and MT5, CFDs on Forex, commodities, indices, US stocks, and ETFs are available. Cryptocurrency CFDs are available only on MT5 and are subject to additional regulatory restrictions for certain categories of clients.

A trader can also use an MT4/MT5 trading account as the basis for subsequently creating their own DARWIN. Thus, the same account allows the trader first to trade with their own capital and, after meeting Darwinex's requirements, to attract investor capital.

Interactive Brokers Accounts

Darwinex partners with Interactive Brokers (IBKR) and offers three account types:

  • Classic Account;
  • DARWIN of Stocks;
  • DARWIN of Futures.

Darwinex acts as an Introducing Broker in this arrangement, while the IBKR account is opened and funds are held, deposited, and withdrawn directly through Interactive Brokers.

Classic Account is intended for regular trading and provides access to instruments offered by IBKR, but it cannot be used to create a DARWIN.

DARWIN of Stocks is designed for stock and ETF traders who want to attract investor capital in the future. DARWIN of Futures serves the same function for futures trading. Both types allow users to create a DARWIN and participate in Darwinex capital-raising programs. After the account has been opened, the selected IBKR account type cannot be changed to a different type.

Investment accounts

For investors, Darwinex offers separate investment portfolios through which they can invest in the DARWIN products of other traders. A user can create up to 5 live investment portfolios, for example, to separate different strategies or risk levels.

The minimum initial investment in a single DARWIN is 200 EUR, USD or GBP, while subsequent position increases have a minimum of 25 units of the base currency.

DARWIN

DARWIN is not a separate brokerage account but an investment product created from a trader's live trading strategy. Investors can invest in such a strategy, but they do not transfer the funds directly to the provider: Darwinex replicates the provider's trading decisions and controls the level of risk.

DARWIN Analysis
DARWIN Analysis

To create a DARWIN based on MT4/MT5, you must have a live trading account, make at least 25 representative trading decisions, have a trading history of at least 15 days and account equity of at least 1 000 EUR, USD or GBP. Once the requirements are met, DARWIN is published on the platform and can attract investor funds.

A DARWIN can be created not only from a CFD strategy run on MT4/MT5 but also through dedicated accounts DARWIN of Stocks and DARWIN of Futures with Interactive Brokers.

Demo accounts

To try out trading, Darwinex offers free demo accounts for MT4 and MT5. The number of such accounts is unlimited, and the initial virtual balance is selected when the account is opened. If you do not log in to a demo account for 20 days, it is closed automatically.

In addition to a demo trading account, there is also a demo investment portfolio for DARWIN products. It is denominated in USD, has no expiration date, and allows users to test investing in DARWIN without risking real funds. One such portfolio is available per user. Demo account restrictions apply to clients who are tax residents of Spain.

Corporate account

The corporate account offered by Darwinex is more of a form of client registration than a separate type of trading account with special trading conditions. After completing corporate verification, the company can use the relevant trading services of Darwinex.

The main difference lies in the account-opening requirements: the minimum initial deposit is 10 000 EUR, USD or GBP compared with 500 units of the base currency for an individual account. Information about the company, its directors and beneficial owners, along with other corporate documents, must also be provided. An individual account that has already been verified cannot be converted into a corporate account.

Commissions

Rating:4/5

The commissions charged by Darwinex can be considered competitive: the broker offers low spreads, a moderate commission for Forex/CFD trading and favorable rates through Interactive Brokers, while the rebate program can further reduce costs by up to 40%.

Commission per trade on a CFD account

For Forex trading, Darwinex charges a commission of about 0.005% of the nominal trade volume for a round trip. For 1 lot of EUR/USD, the commission is approximately 2.85 USD per side, or about 5.70 USD to open and close a position. This can be considered competitive compared with most ECN and Raw accounts offered by other brokers.

Spreads and swaps

The spreads offered by Darwinex can be considered low and competitive, which aligns well with the broker's commission model and makes the conditions attractive for active trading.

The swaps charged by Darwinex are around the market average. They do not appear excessive, but they also provide no notable advantage over competitors. They are not a significant factor for short-term trading, but rollover costs should be considered separately when positions are held for a long time.

Trading commission rebates

Darwinex offers a rebate on a portion of the trading commissions paid. For retail clients, the rebate amount depends on the D-Score, while for professional clients it primarily depends on the monthly commission volume. The rebate is calculated at the end of the month and credited to the Darwinex Wallet.

D-Score (Darwinex Score) is Darwinex's proprietary metric for assessing the quality of the return curve of a trading strategy/DARWIN based on its historical performance.

Professional clients can also choose a D-Score-based rebate scheme instead of the standard volume-based model. Under the maximum rebate option, Darwinex allows clients to receive a rebate of up to 40% of trading commissions.

Commission for investing in stocks

For trading real stocks and ETFs through Interactive Brokers, Darwinex uses the IBKR Fixed commission schedule. This means that the client continues to trade under Interactive Brokers' terms and pays no additional commission for the integration itself.

For US stocks and ETFs, the standard IBKR Pro Fixed rate is 0.005 USD per share, with a minimum of 1 USD per order and a maximum of 1% of the trade value. Thus, this rate is particularly attractive for medium-sized and large orders, while for very small purchases the minimum fee of 1 USD increases relative costs.

Futures trading commission

Futures accounts offered by Darwinex also operate through Interactive Brokers, so the IBKR Fixed pricing terms apply. The commission depends on the exchange and the specific contract, so there is no single rate for all futures. Darwinex provides access to contracts traded on CME, CBOE, EUREX and ICE, among others.

For many standard US futures, the base fixed commission charged by IBKR is 0.85 USD per contract per side, while rates for certain micro and specialized contracts may be substantially lower or higher. For example, a rate of 0.25 USD applies to a number of spot and micro contracts. Exchange and regulatory fees depend on the instrument and may be charged additionally in accordance with IBKR's specifications.

Unlike CFDs, futures do not incur traditional overnight swap charges. Instead, initial and maintenance margin requirements apply. These differ for each contract and may change daily.

Account inactivity fee

A client is considered inactive if, during the previous 12 months, none of their accounts has had an open market position. After that, an inactivity fee of 10 EUR per month is charged or the equivalent in the account's base currency. The fee stops accruing once activity resumes, the funds are withdrawn, or the account balance is depleted.

Deposit and withdrawal fees

Most deposit methods offered by Darwinex do not incur a separate broker fee. The exception is Skrill — 0.5%. Bank transfers in USD for amounts below 2 000 USD may also incur bank charges.

For withdrawals, Darwinex does not charge a separate fee, but passes the actual costs charged by the payment system or bank on to the client.

Deposit and Withdrawal

Rating:3.5/5

Darwinex offers a limited but sufficient range of deposit and withdrawal methods: bank transfers, bank cards, and Skrill. Cryptocurrency payments are not supported. Funds are first credited to the Darwinex Wallet, from which the client allocates them between trading and investment accounts.

The primary deposit method is bank transfer. Visa/Mastercard cards with 3D Secure and Skrill are also available to some clients. Darwinex only accepts payments from accounts and payment methods belonging to the owner of the brokerage account.

The minimum initial deposit is 500 EUR/USD/GBP for an individual or joint account and 10 000 EUR/USD/GBP for a corporate account. The minimum amount for subsequent deposits is 100 EUR/USD/GBP, but bank transfers always require a minimum of 500 units of the base currency.

Withdrawal requests are usually processed within 1 to 3 business days. However, some methods, such as bank transfers, may take longer.

The same methods available for deposits can be used for withdrawals: bank transfers, credit/debit cards, and e-wallets. It is important to use the same withdrawal method as the deposit method to comply with the AML (anti-money laundering) policy.

Darwinex does not impose a separate withdrawal penalty, but passes the actual transaction costs on to the client. For cards and Skrill, the charge is 1%, subject to a minimum of 2 units of the base currency, while a bank transfer may include fees charged by Darwinex's bank and the client's bank.

Withdrawal requests are usually processed within 1 to 3 business days. However, some methods, such as bank transfers, may take longer.

Markets and Products

Rating:4/5

Darwinex offers a fairly broad selection of markets, with the range of instruments depending on the account type. On CFD accounts, Forex, indices, commodities, US stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies are available. In addition, integration with Interactive Brokers enables trading in real US stocks and futures. The broker's main strength is its selection of stocks, while its range of currencies, indices, and commodities is more moderate.

What markets are available?

On standard CFD accounts, Darwinex offers currency pairs, stock indices, commodities, US stocks, ETFs and cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrency CFDs are available only through MT5 and are subject to additional restrictions depending on the client's jurisdiction.

A separate offering consists of accounts through Interactive Brokers. Through them, Darwinex provides access to real US stocks and more than 60 futures contracts. Therefore, the overall range of instruments is considerably broader than that of a typical CFD broker, although some assets require opening a separate IBKR account.

Leverage

Maximum leverage depends on the regulated entity, client status, and asset class. For retail clients of Darwinex UK and Darwinex EU, it reaches 1:30, while professional clients and clients of Darwinex Global can use leverage of up to 1:200.

When trading futures through Interactive Brokers, IBKR's margin requirements apply, so there is no single fixed leverage ratio for all contracts.

Trading Platforms

Rating:5/5

Darwinex offers a strong range of trading platforms: MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView and DXtrade. This combination is suitable for traditional manual trading, technical analysis, and algorithmic strategies. MetaTrader is available in desktop, mobile, and web versions, while TradingView is integrated directly with Darwinex's trading infrastructure. MetaTrader servers are located close to liquidity providers in the Equinix LD4 data center in London, an arrangement intended to reduce execution latency.

MetaTrader 4

MetaTrader 4 remains a convenient option for Forex traders and users of automated strategies. MT4 users at Darwinex can trade currencies, indices, and commodity CFDs, as well as a limited range of US stocks and ETFs. Cryptocurrency CFDs are not supported on MT4.

MetaTrader 4
MetaTrader 4

The platform offers 9 timeframes, 4 pending order types, technical indicators, charting tools, and support for Expert Advisors in MQL4. Darwinex provides MT4 for Windows and macOS, apps for iOS and Android, as well as a web terminal for browser-based trading.

MetaTrader 5

MetaTrader 5 is a more functional and versatile option. It is MT5 that provides access to the widest range of CFDs that Darwinex offers, including Forex, indices, commodities, US stocks, and ETFs, as well as cryptocurrencies. The selection of stocks and ETFs is broader here than on MT4.

MetaTrader 5
MetaTrader 5

MT5 supports 21 timeframes, 6 pending order types and Depth of Market, as well as algorithmic trading in MQL5. In Darwinex, both versions of MetaTrader operate in hedging mode. The platform is available on computers, smartphones, and through a browser. For traders who do not require compatibility with legacy Expert Advisors in MT4, MT5 appears to be the most versatile terminal offered by Darwinex.

TradingView

Darwinex has direct integration with TradingView, so trades can be opened directly from charts on TradingView without a separate trading terminal. On this platform, through Darwinex, users can access Forex and CFDs on stock indices and commodities.

TradingView
TradingView

The main advantage of TradingView is its advanced chart analytics: dozens of chart types, hundreds of built-in indicators, numerous drawing tools, price alerts, and its own Pine Script language for creating indicators and strategies. A paid TradingView subscription is not required to connect—the free plan can be used, although its functionality is limited compared with paid plans.

A feature of the Darwinex integration is that existing holders of DXtrade accounts can connect to TradingView using the same credentials, retaining their current trading history and DARWIN. A new client can also open a dedicated TradingView account with Darwinex.

DXtrade

DXtrade is an alternative web platform from Darwinex for traders who do not need MetaTrader. It provides access to Forex, indices, and commodity CFDs. Darwinex allows traders to open separate live DXtrade accounts alongside MT4 and MT5 accounts.

DXtrade
DXtrade

The main practical advantage of DXtrade in the current Darwinex ecosystem is its close integration with TradingView. An existing DXtrade account can be connected to TradingView without starting a new trading history, allowing the trader to use Darwinex's account infrastructure while analyzing the market and placing trades through the TradingView interface.

Analytics

Rating:3.5/5

Darwinex's analytics differ markedly from the standard broker offering of news, trading signals, and market reviews. The main focus is on in-depth analysis of trading strategies, risk assessment, and the statistical robustness of results. This is particularly useful for systematic traders and managers who want to objectively assess the quality of their own strategy or a potential DARWIN.

Strategy Analysis

In the Darwinex client portal, each trading account has a Strategy Analysis section. Once sufficient trading history has accumulated, the system automatically calculates key strategy metrics, including returns, maximum drawdown, daily volatility, and the proprietary D-Score. D-Score assesses the quality of a DARWIN's return curve based on data from the past five years and is used by Darwinex as one indicator of strategy quality.

The main feature of the analytics offered by Darwinex is a system of 12 Investable Attributes, each scored from 0 to 10. This allows a strategy to be examined in much greater depth than profitability alone.

Indicator

What it evaluates

Ex — Experience

the statistical significance of the accumulated history

Mc — Market Correlation

the dependence of performance on movements in the underlying assets

Rs — Risk Stability

the stability of the risk taken

Ra — Risk Adjustment

how often the Risk Engine has to adjust risk

Os — Open Strategy

the quality of entry timing

Cs — Close Strategy

the quality of exit timing

R+ — Positive Return Consistency

patterns in closing profitable positions

R− — Negative Return Consistency

patterns in closing losing positions

Dc — Duration Consistency

consistency in trade duration

La — Loss Aversion

the tendency to hold on to losses and take profits prematurely

Pf — Performance

risk-adjusted returns relative to random strategies

Cp — Capacity

the strategy's ability to accept additional capital

Darwinex does not evaluate a strategy based solely on its overall profit. For example, Performance (Pf) compares the risk-adjusted performance of a DARWIN with 10 000 random strategies at a similar risk level, while Risk Stability and Risk Adjustment help determine how consistently the trader manages risk and how actively the Darwinex system has to intervene in the trader's strategy.

For the entry and exit metrics, Darwinex also performs its own simulations: actual trades are compared with scenarios in which the position would have been opened or closed slightly earlier or later. This allows the analytics to assess not only the final result, but also the quality of the trader's trading decisions.

Education

Rating:2.5/5

The educational materials from Darwinex are mainly found on the corporate blog. The company publishes articles about trading, how the platforms work, the features of DARWIN, service updates, and practical aspects of using the broker. At the same time, Darwinex does not offer a full-fledged academy with a sequence of courses, webinars, and a structured training program for beginners.

Blog

The Darwinex blog includes several thematic sections, as well as interviews and materials about the DarwinIA program. Its publications cover both guidance on using Darwinex products and broader topics related to trading strategies, capital management, and platform use.

Darwinex Blog
Darwinex Blog

The blog's main value lies in its materials for traders who are already familiar with the market. It contains guides to the features of Darwinex, reviews of new instruments, changes in trading conditions, and stories from other traders. However, the content is not structured as a single training course progressing from basic to advanced levels, so beginners may need an additional source of structured learning.

Customer Support

Rating:3.5/5

Darwinex technical support is designed to handle both standard questions about accounts, payments, and platforms and trading-related issues. The company states that its support team includes specialists with trading experience. Users can also consult the detailed Darwinex Docs knowledge base, which provides instructions on accounts, platforms, DARWIN, payments, and Interactive Brokers.

How can I contact support?

You can contact Darwinex in several ways:

  • Email: info@darwinex.com.
  • Phone number for the UK: +44 20 3769 1554.
  • Phone number for Spain: +34 910 610 060.
  • Contact form on the website.
  • Emergency Form — a separate form for critical issues involving live trading.

The emergency form is intended only for situations in which quotes stop coming through, the client cannot place trades, or there are execution problems with trades already placed. Routine queries, including cases where Stop and Limit orders are triggered at a different price, should be directed to standard support.

Support hours

The official Darwinex page lists the following customer support hours: Monday through Thursday from 08:00 to 17:00 UTC. The broker does not claim to offer 24-hour support available 24/7.

These hours can be considered relatively limited: the lack of standard support in the evenings, at night, and on weekends compares unfavorably with brokers offering 24-hour or 24/5 support. The separate procedure for emergency trading issues partially offsets this drawback.

Customer support reviews

Reviews of the support provided by Darwinex are mixed. Among recent reviews on Trustpilot, some customers mention quick responses, clear explanations, and professional help with opening an account and resolving technical issues.

At the same time, there are complaints about delays in handling more complex cases, inadequate assistance in disputed trading situations, and lengthy escalation of issues related to withdrawals or IBKR accounts.

Conclusion

Darwinex is a specialized broker and investment platform that differs significantly from traditional Forex and CFD companies. It combines conventional trading with Interactive Brokers' infrastructure and the proprietary DARWIN ecosystem, which allows traders to turn a trading strategy into an investment product and attract capital from other investors. Based on its regulation, trading conditions, platforms, and available features, Darwinex appears to be a strong broker, although some services are more specialized and require a certain level of experience.

Darwinex is best suited to experienced, systematic, and algorithmic traders who want to analyze their strategies' results in detail, trade through MT4/MT5 or TradingView and potentially attract investor capital through DARWIN. The broker may also appeal to stock and futures traders thanks to its integration with Interactive Brokers.

FAQ

Is Darwinex legit?

Yes. Darwinex is a regulated broker and asset-management platform operating through entities supervised by the FCA in the UK, CNMV in Spain, and FSA Seychelles. Client protection varies by entity, with compensation schemes available to eligible UK and EU clients.

Which country is Darwinex from?

Darwinex was founded in 2012 in the United Kingdom and is headquartered in London, with a development office in Spain. The group now operates regulated entities in the UK, Spain and Seychelles.

Is Darwinex an ECN broker?
