How the calculator works
We compute how much 1 tick/pip/point costs for 1 lot in your account currency, then size the lot so that StopDistance × TickValue × Lots ≈ Risk.
Lots = Risk / (StopTicks × TickValuePerLot)
In common FX settings, conversion to the base currency uses 1/entry price. Applied MT5 data uses its valuation snapshot.
Disclaimer: This tool is for informational purposes only. Contract specs (contract size, tick size, minimum lot, margin rules) can vary by broker and account type. Always verify symbol settings in your trading platform. Trading CFDs involves risk.

How to calculate Forex position size
Enter your account balance and risk as a percentage or amount. Select the instrument and direction, then set the stop as a distance or price. Check the pip value in your account currency and the permitted lot step. The result shows the rounded volume and estimated loss to the stop.
Pip value calculator for your lot size
In the MT5 panel, select a broker account, enter a volume and a number of pips, and read the movement value. Pip value for the selected volume = pip value per lot × lots. For a verified 100,000-unit EURUSD contract, 1 pip of 0.0001 is 10 USD per lot: 0.10 lots and 20 pips equal 20 USD before costs.
MT5 contract specifications and account currency
The panel uses approved specifications from our monitored live, unfunded MT5 accounts. It shows the broker symbol, account type, contract snapshot date, pip unit and volume limits. It does not connect to your account or reproduce actual execution. Converted values require an available currency conversion; otherwise enter the value manually.
Position size formula and minimum lot
Without costs, lots = risk budget / (stop distance in pips × pip value per lot). With 1,000 USD, an illustrative 1% risk budget, a 20-pip stop and 10 USD per pip per lot, the raw volume is 0.05 lots. Applied broker specifications round volume down and enforce the minimum and maximum. If the minimum exceeds the budget, the result is zero lots.
Gold XAUUSD: pip, point and tick
For gold, use the price change displayed as one pip; traders and brokers may use different conventions. The minimum tick and the pip unit are shown separately. For an illustrative 100-ounce contract, a 0.01 USD move is 1 USD per lot, or 0.10 USD at 0.10 lots. Check the selected account specification rather than assuming a universal gold pip value.
Costs, conversion and margin
The general calculator estimates loss to the stop before commissions, swaps and additional slippage. Use executable entry and exit prices to avoid counting spread twice. Related spread and swap calculators provide separate cost estimates. Optional leverage gives an approximate margin figure, not a broker order check. Conversion, costs and stop execution can change the final loss.
Position size and pip value questions
What lot size can I calculate for a 1,000 USD account?
Balance alone is insufficient. With a 10 USD risk budget, a 20-pip stop and a 10 USD pip value per lot, the calculation gives 0.05 lots before costs and broker limits. A different stop or pip value changes the result.
How do I calculate pip value for 0.01 or 0.10 lots?
Multiply the value for one lot by the volume. A 10 USD pip value per lot becomes 0.10 USD at 0.01 lots or 1 USD at 0.10 lots. The MT5 panel performs this calculation in your selected account currency.
Are MT5 broker parameters imported automatically?
The panel loads approved parameters for the monitored account type. Click Apply specifications to transfer pip/tick value and volume limits. This is a contract snapshot, not a connection to your own terminal; verify its date and your account conditions.
Is one pip the same as one tick?
No. A pip is a displayed price-distance unit; a tick is the minimum price change. A 0.0001 pip contains ten 0.00001 ticks. JPY pairs and gold use other price units; read the values shown for your instrument.
Why does the calculator return zero lots?
With applied broker specifications, the minimum permitted volume can already exceed the risk budget. The result shows the estimated minimum-lot risk. Rounding up would exceed the entered budget.
Can I use the calculator with MT4 or an unlisted broker?
Yes, by entering the exact contract parameters manually. The automatic monitored account data comes from MT5. No indicator, installer or account credentials are required.
Does the calculated risk guarantee my final loss?
No. It describes the entered stop and valuation assumptions. Gaps, execution prices, currency changes and costs can produce a different loss. It does not validate free margin or guarantee acceptance of an order.
